At Foundation level, you'll learn to:

• Understand how business analysis supports strategy, change and the project lifecycle
• Use investigation techniques such as interviews, workshops, observation and document analysis

At Practitioner level (Business Analysis Practice), you'll learn to:
• Analyse an organisation's strategic context with techniques such as PESTLE, Porter's Five Forces and SWOT
• Carry out gap analysis between where the organisation is now and where it needs to be
• Investigate complex business situations and represent them clearly, for example with rich pictures and mind maps
• Analyse and manage stakeholders using tools such as the power/interest grid and CATWOE
• Build business activity models to explore how the business should work
• Identify and evaluate options for change
• Develop a business case, including costs, benefits, risks and investment appraisal
• Plan for benefits realisation after change is delivered.

Why study both levels together?
Studying Foundation and Practitioner together is the most direct way to go from knowing business analysis to doing it well. It's ideal if you're moving into a BA role, recently appointed as a business analyst, or taking on bigger responsibility for strategy, stakeholders and business cases. You go straight from one level to the next while the techniques are fresh in your mind, with one study plan and one tutor, and you save compared with buying both courses separately. Both courses also count towards the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis.

How long does it take?

You have 12 months to complete both courses and exams, both courses are around 20 hours each of study.

What are the exams like? 

Each course has one BCS multiple choice/multiple reponse exam, taken online.
