The Diploma in AI Governance (DipAIGov) is a professional qualification for directors, board members and senior leaders who need to oversee AI in their organisation. It is awarded and delivered by The Corporate Governance Institute, a global leader in educating and certifying directors, trusted by directors and executives in over 80 countries. The course is taught live online over 10 weeks, with one 3-hour session each week (30 hours in total). Learners get 6 months' access to recordings and course resources. No technical background is needed.


It covers AI strategy, ethics, regulation including the EU AI Act, AI risk, data governance, governance structures and board oversight, and ends with a live boardroom crisis simulation. Learners are assessed through two scenario-based assessments, and the assessment fee is included.

About the Course

AI usually finds its way into an organisation step by step: through staff using generative AI tools, suppliers adding AI to their software, and pilots that quietly become business as usual. As AI becomes part of everyday work, the questions multiply. Which AI tools are staff already using without approval? Do your IT policies and controls cover AI? Are you meeting your legal and compliance obligations? Is the data behind it lawful and reliable? Who is accountable when AI gets something wrong, and how would you know?

The opportunities matter just as much. Used well, AI can improve service, increase efficiency and create new value. The Diploma in AI Governance shows you how to capture those benefits with clear direction, the right data and proper oversight at a strategic level, whether or not you sit on a board.

The course moves from AI literacy and strategy through ethics, regulation, risk and data governance to designing governance structures and making board-level decisions, and it finishes with a live boardroom crisis simulation that tests everything you've learned.

You'll learn:

• Explain AI, generative AI and agentic AI clearly enough to lead a boardroom discussion
• Evaluate AI investment proposals and challenge management on value, ROI and risk
• Understand your organisation's regulatory exposure, including the EU AI Act, GDPR, NIS2 and DORA
• Identify operational, legal, strategic, reputational and cyber risks from AI, including in third-party tools
• Oversee data governance, privacy and intellectual property risks linked to AI
• Design AI governance structures, decision rights and escalation routes
• Assess whether AI governance is working, and respond effectively to an AI incident
